About Nico

NICOLAS MONTES DE OCA IS A PROFESSIONAL CIRCUS PERFORMER WHO HAS DEDICATED HIS LIFE TO HANDBALANCING AND THE CIRCUS ARTS

He discovered circus at the age of 16 when he first saw a juggler performing in his hometown and fell in love with it.

He began to develop his skills self-taught and this took him on a journey around the world, finding more people like himself. At age 23 he decided that he wanted to dedicate his practice completely to the art of handbalacing. This led him to China where he met several handstand coaches and the one that he considers who changed his life- Liu Laoshi, a handbalancing coach who won the gold medal at the Olympics in 1986 in Mexico.

After spending many years of training with Liu Laoshi in China Nicolas traveled to Kyiv, Ukraine where he had an amazing opportunity to receive professional training by Vitold Antonovich Kuvshinov, considered to be one of the best handbalancing coaches in the world before he passed away in 2016.

He spent many years of self-development with handbalancing but reached new levels with his skills by receiving professional tuition at the Shanghai Circus School in China, ESAC (Ecole Superior du Arts du Cirque) in Belgium, and Kyiv Circus Academy in Ukraine.

Nico has developed his own unique style in the discipline of handbalancing, fusing it with dance and movement and he has since performed all around the world. He has performed at many prestigious companies such as Franco DRAGONE, LES 7 DOIGTS DE LA MAIN and CIRQUE
